Moxa

Print E-mail

Moxa is a Chinese healing method meaning “the herb that burns”. The particular herb employed is Artemisia Vulgaris, which is particularly effective in treating chronic conditions and articular pain in general.

The application is based on the same principles as acupuncture, but in this case is not invasive.

The term Moxa derives from the Japanese ideograms Moe and Kusa, which mean “needle” and “fire” which describe the practices of this therapeutic technique. Until a few decades ago, Moxa was unknown in the West.
The technique consists of heating an area of the skin, then applying acupuncture needles or sources of energy to obtain
relief from a physical ailment.

Once the point to be treated has been selected, it is necessary to decide if the treatment required should disperse or invigorate. If the pre-selected point requires energy, then you have to invigorate it, and supply it with energy. If, on the other hand, the point is too full of stagnant, blocked-up energy, then you have to disperse it and remove it from the body. Moxa has generally proved to be very effective in the treatment of lumber pains and problems with the joints.
