The Pilates Method

Print E-mail

Pilates is the most popular of the many fitness techniques practised in America, and is also becoming more widespread in Italy.

The Pilates Method takes its name from Joseph Pilates, who developed this particular discipline in the 1920’s. It allows its practitioners to develop a well-balanced body and create harmony between body, mind and spirit, using the support of purpose-built equipment.

Pilates is a personalized form of gymnastics which, by means of a series of exercises, helps to strengthen and tone the muscles and restore good posture. The results are rapid and the process non-traumatic. It is an ideal discipline for those who want to restore their psycho-physical well-being, and for those who want to make best use of their time to improve their health. The exercises used in the Pilates method can be learnt with a minimum of practice and constitute a real method with a philosophical and theoretical basis, founded on research into a complete awareness of movement.

This method, therefore, is not simply a fitness technique but also concerned with adjusting posture and internal balance. By working on your breathing, concentration, precision in carrying out the exercises, balance and fluidity of movement, the Pilates method helps you to totally redesign your physical structure.
