Lombardy boasts a large number of thermal springs with various beneficial and curative properties. These are located in towns and localities with a long history and tradition of art and eno-gastronomic culture which is fascinating to explore. The Boario Spa-Baths, in the lower Canonica Valley, have 4 springs which are suited to the treatment of different pathological conditions: from liver dysfunction to conditions related to the intestine or digestive system.
The waters of the Fonti di Vallio and the ancient Terme di Sirmione, located near the famous Grotte di Catullo, are famous for their diuretic and cleansing properties. The spa waters, famous since ancient times, gush from a spring located about 300 metres above the shores of Lake Garda. Bormio, a beautiful town in the high Valtellina treats the visitor to the pleasures of a Spa which has be famous since Roman times. Here you can find nine springs, which are principally used for treating allergic complaints and diabetes. The springs at Bracca, in the province of Bergamo, are a wonderful resource for hydroponic treatments. On the other hand, the thermal centre of San Pellegrino, in Val Brembana, is famous above all for the therapeutic qualities of its drinking water, which is bottled and used to treat conditions of the stomach, liver and intestine. The Bagni del Masino spa, in the province of Sondrio, is a place of great beauty and fascination, as well as being an important centre of treatment. Here, the spring water gushes out at a temperature of 38°, inside a grotto more than 1100 metres deep. This spa centre was visited in olden days by writers and artists and is now a listed monument in the care of the Department of Fine Arts. |
