Fangotherapy is an antalgic treatment based on the application of mud and hot algae to the body to treat rheumatism and painful inflammation of the joints. As practiced in the wellbeing centres and spa centres it consists of a massage session, lasting for 20 minutes, using algae and mud. These are heated to quite a high temperature to enable the absorption of the active ingredients. The beneficial effect of this technique, apart from achieving therapeutic results, is to make the skin more radiant, smooth and nourished. This is thanks to the oligo-elements and minerals contained in the marine mud, to which are often added Dead Sea salt, health-giving algae and essential oils. The principal qualities of mud, which justify its use for therapeutic purposes, are many in number. Its high mineral-salt content, and its notable capacity to retain heat act together to stimulate the circulation. The application of heat also provokes a strong sweat reaction, with the consequent elimination of toxins. |
