Irrigation

Print E-mail

Irrigation and internal douches are thermal techniques which bring thermal gas and mineral water into contact with the mucose

in the body’s entry cavities (those in the rectum, vagina, nose and throat). The thermal water is put into the appropriate container (known as an irrigator) and heated to achieve the requisite density and temperature for the target treatment, with the possible addition of medication to the fluid. The preparation is then brought into contact with the mucose using various techniques: a probe to permeate the mucose, a drip, which delivers the water drop by drop to allow it to be thoroughly absorbed, and a jet, also in the form of an aerosol, which is particularly efficacious in treating endotimpanic conditions.
