There are many Spas in Trentino and each specializes in different, particular, types of treatment.

The hay baths are perhaps the best known form of well-being therapy practiced in Trentino. In the past, the local farmers and their workers used to leave their villages to go up to the high slopes during the summer hay season. It was from the end of the 19th century onwards that hay-baths began to be used as a form of therapy. Nowadays phytobalneotherapy is very commonly used in thermal medicine. It is ideal for treating rheumatic ailments, relieving muscular tension and aiding circulation.                           One of the spa establishments where this treatment is practiced is Garnica Terme, near Trento, standing at 850 metres on Monte Bondone. Here there is a specially equipped spa centre specializing in bath treatments using grass which is in the process of fermenting.

With regards to thermal water, the health-givign properties of the mineral water from Pejo Terme (Trentino) are very well known. In fact, you can find it on many Italian dining-tables.

The water from Merano, on the other hand, is rich in radon. Owing to its radio-active properties this water is very useful for treating osteo-articular, gynaecological and vascular conditions, as well as ailments affecting the respiratory system.

At the Levico Spa-baths, which are the highest in Europe, there is a source of water very high in arsenic. This can be used to combat stress and treat conditions affecting the nose, throat and respiratory system in general.

The therapeutic properties of the Comano spring water make it useful for treating skin conditions. This is due to the presence of fluoride in the water.

The thermal waters of Alloch, at Pozza di Fassa have been famous since ancient times. This is the only sulphurous spring in the Trentino region.

The spring known as Fonte Sant’Antonio is at Caderzone in the Val Randena, in the upper reaches of the Adamello Brenta Natural Park. The qualities of this ferruginous spring water have been appreciated since antiquity. The oligo-mineral water at the spa centre is ideal for baths, hydro-massage and inhalation and hydroponic treatments.
